Alan Stevens ist der Präsident der GLobal Speakers Federation und war in Köln auf der GSA Convention dabei. Hier sein Bericht zu Hans-Dietrich Genscher: While in Cologne, I was privileged to listen to a great speaker delivering a marvellous speech. Hans-Dietrich Genscher was the German foreign minister in 1989 when the Berlin wall fell. He was honoured by the German Speakers Association, and made a speech about his political life, linking his experience in the DDR (the former East Germany) with political life today.
It was truly inspiring, and afterwards I was able to meet him personally and thank him, not just for his speech, but for what he had achieved. It was an immense honour and privilege. Without doubt, he gave one of the best speeches I have ever been present to hear and see, and he is a very deserving recipient of the MediaMaster award this week. Here is the moment he announced to a crowd of thousands of East Germans gathered in Prague that they were now free to travel to the west. Even if you don't speak German, you'll understand it.
